From December ,price is declined from $12 to $8.8 . Within 6 months periods, price was slump for abouth 50% ( peak was around $16)

Does it show any bad sign for domain industry ?

it shows how bad is the profit margin in the domain industry and how many competitors have increased in it

It shows how big of idiots the guys running Marchex are.

They should fire all those arbitrageurs and let the returns come solely from the names in the portfolio -- oh, and get rid of those typos that are gonna come back to bite them in the $$$ :imho:

the financial markets in general have got a stop, most volatile stocks gain more during bull times but also lose more when it`s bear time. It`s normal.

Marchex `s chart shows a bad sign that started in early 2006 after the maximun over $25 , confirmed then on late July 2006 with that minimun under $13, it`s nothing new.

And yes, I was a financial advisor :)

Its not a surprise here, their monetization strategies have been just silly. They hold an incredible portfolio, but simply havnt figured out how to best monetize it. Not to mention a substancial chunk of the portfolio, I sincerely doubt performs very well for them.

I would say its time to trim the fat, and focus on not just "monetization" in the basic sense, but development. I mean true development as they hold some very promising domains.

They're developing the zip codes which is prolly the biggest hardest thing they could have done instead of taking the best single domain and finishing it first and then moving on...I have never typed in zip code in my life...

unreal

Even if they would just edit one by one each domain - put graphics, correct keywords, fix the titles, etc...........

Duh ! It's a proven model. But, they wanted to reinvent the wheel to look slick for Wall Street .

Why would you not optimize the sites first.... and then experiment with development with all the cash coming in?

I think it is a domainer's pipe dream - just because MCHX appen to have some good domains - to shout "development", wave a magic wand and expect it to become anything more than a MFA site...
