Hi all, Anyone know a good tutorial or how to make a forum for my web page using Dreamweaver???
I looked online at the free forums, however it means it will be under a different domain name, I kind of want one under mine...
Kind regards,

Dax :)

Making a forum from scratch is a very complex undertaking. If you want an idea of how difficult it is I recommend Larry Ulmann's new book "PHP 6", there is a section near the back that give you step by step instructions on how to create your own forum using PHP.

Alternatively, vBulletin or Invision Power Board would be my products of choice. A license for vBulletin costs in the region of $100 and it's easy as pie to upload onto your webserver. A feature full web-forum for 1 million times less effort.

If you are put off by the price, perhaps phpBB would be a better option?

Hi there, thanks for your reply...
So is this true that the forum can be under my domain? as I was told I would just have to put a link on my page directing traffic to the forum under a different domain (Phbb)??

Regards,

if you have your own domain name, all you need is a standard web hosting account that supports php and mysql and you can install phpbb (<-- forum software) on it. you'll need at least one free mysql database to install phpbb onto.

Yes, creating forum in dream weaver is not everyman's cup of tea. Better suggestion is to use the scripts. SMF, PHPBB are free that you can upload on your hosting and customize. It will be under your domain name and perfect.

But creating a forum is not a big deal but real struggle starts to collect members for forum. Since a forum without content is useless and without lots of members contents won't grow.

Thus, rather than spending time to develop a new forum script, install the pre-available script and start promoting it to get more traffic and content.

You can download Forum Software, customise it and then upload all the files to your own Server on your website, at any address you want.

I currently have a PHPBB3 Forum attached to my website Plooka. If you take a look you will notice the Forum looks just like another part of the site. Or you could just have the Forum standalone if you wanted and brand however you want - logos, pictures etc.

No point reinventing the wheel when someone is providing F1 tyres for free! :)
