any thoughts around using the "m"-prefix on mobile-related keywords/terms, like mphones.tld etc. i am asking because mobile health seems to be widely referred to as mHealth

You can use this but do not expect that all internet users understands the meaning of "m".

It's also used for mcommerce.

mcommerce.it sold for 3,000 EUR this year

But I agree, many people would not know what it means.

I see it mostly as a subdomain, ie m.example.com. I think it used instead of the .mobi.

add a non-premium letter y, then you have my_ prefix which is much better.

I thought it might have something to do with mmmmm-pie.

And as I think of something else to say I notice I have a blank quzzical expression on my face as I search desperately for any redeeming feature in this phenomenon and can come up with none.

The thing with the iphone, or an ebook is that the letters used are vowels, it is easy to put them together. After a while it works naturally.

What you asked breaks all the rules of the universe and hurts my brain :(

Unless this prefix is branded, I do not see any particular reason in getting such domains. The certain once could be good. while the another is worthless.

However, "mtheory" (which have already been registered) should be rather prospective.
