M+M is the perfect example of a company with huge pockets and not so huge brains.

How can you blow so much money for such useless extensions? vodka, rodeo, horse, cooking, beer, fishing? really?

I really don't get it. They should be experts. I think most in this NP community could make better decisions and have a better pulse of the market. With those extensions, I think they are fooling themselves.

Did you catch the part where they showed how many are still registered. There are domainers with more names than all those put together.

I'm really curious how their business meetings went prior to decide what extensions to buy. Should have been sort of:

Hey, I know for a fact that there are 50 million horses worldwide!
Wow, cool! Every horse deserve its own domain so we have 50 mil potential buyers!

or...

There are over 100 million vodka consumers worldwide!
Cool, that's a goldmine! Let's buy .vodka !

I bet they also paid at least 5 figure to various companies for market research to come up with this .crap

They say people invest in domains based on what they are thinking about. Let's take a look.....

I was at the .Rodeo out in the .Country drinking .Vodka when a .Horse came out of the .Garden after a long day of .Fishing. I asked him to start .Cooking some .Surf and turf. while I have a cold .Beer and he had a .Fit, called off the .Wedding and asked me to find a new .Casa

There, I used all of them. Most use those extensions will probably get. :)

Many smart companies are already consulting domainers about their domain strategies. I've seen a few in-house jobs w/ media companies that were looking for people w/ skills you would expect a digital investor to have.

There should be a job board here on NP. :)

being overly confident can lead to poor decision making.

https://namestat.org/rodeo

At this point rodeo has 824 registrations with a $20 retail renewal fee.

According to this this it will bring in less than 2k in revenue per month. The application fee was $200k and the yearly ICANN fee 25k.

This one must be losing money and many others will probably too. I wonder how many losing extensions will be kept alive despite not being profitable.

At this point they can't just shut them down because there would be many disgruntled end-users and complaints.

Once the word gets out that the new extensions can be shut-down no one will want to develop them.

If they want to be perceived as reliable they need to keep them alive even if they lose money doing it.

If many extensions were to be shut-down, I predict that would be the end of the program. No one wants to develop extensions that might not be around a few years later.

Yup!

Millions of domains have yet to drop.

Makes people that know not want to build on new Gs. I doubt successful extensions will cover MMX loses.
