I've been doing this domain thing for almost a year now and I can't help but notice that when I check overture for certain keywords, many of the top searches are for song lyrics that happen to contain that keyword.

Is it just me? Or are teenagers doing a crazy amount of searches for the lyrics of their favorite songs?

Makes me wonder what the average ppc is for a lyric site, anyone know?

I have a lyrics site and I get a few clicks now and then, this weekend I had 2 clicks and each paid $0.01 :(

I usually see about $0.25 clicks on average for my lyrics site... I have never tried to optimize the ads based on keywords or anything, so I am not sure how high the ppc could go, but I do not think it will be much more than $0.50 per click at the highest...

Only problem with lyrics is that that aren't really any sales associated with them. (IE Someone searching for a lawyer, ect.) People find out the words, maybe print them out, but thats it. Do you really search for lyrics for songs right off the radio you don't own yet? Not so much I'd say.

Are there any music sites that do referrals for sales? That would probably be your best bet for monitization, but even then I can see why clicks pay so little.

Just out of curiosity, why did you automatically make the assumption that it's teenagers searching for the lyrics? Older people do it too you know.

I think a cleverly monetised lyrics site could be highly profitable, but entry to that market normally requires obtaining a database of songs to start with. If someone did do it, i'd reccomend partnering with iTunes to sell legitimate downloads, or at least Amazon.

I imagine big rewards would come to anyone who made the effort to target these ads specific to the artist or song.

It depends on the age of the lyrics though I guess; if they are current, then they are covered by copyright as with anything anyone writes.

Elvis lyrics are probably OK, Radiohead probably not...

I have LyricBay.com

I'm sure it will be a big sale one day.

I search lyrics all the time and I'm not a teenager.

I don't see why the industry objects to lyric sites. Often I search a line of a song because I don't remember the artist or title.

How would I buy the song without this info?

There are lots of ways to make money out of a lyric site.

Ringtones.

Biographies.

Tshirts.

p.s. This site contains some really funny lyric errors.

I had some current lyrics by nickelback, staind etc. on my one site. It was developed for a few months and I received about 60 - 100 visits a month. I parked it at Sedo a few weeks ago (got too lazy to develope any more) and all of a sudden it started getting around 500 hits a day (still is.) I thought it was bots at first but now I think it is because of a new band, I had their one major song listed and the day my visits spiked was the day their album was released.

I search lyrics all the time...everyone does I think....you could put ads for ipods etc. on your site or even link to the CD's and ringtones at an affiliate site. That's what I did for a bit though didn't get any clicks.
