[Free] lyrics database

Firsly, can I just ask - are song lyrics legal? I don't want to get sued or anything. lol

Secondly, does anyone know where I can download and use (for free preferably) a large, and up to date lyrics database?

Even better still, does anyone know of anywhere I can get a lyrics "feed" of sorts, so that they are always up to date.

And once more, even better still, does anyone know of a lyrics API (such as the google api or the yahoo developer xml apis) so that I don't have to download anything at all?

Hi, Hmm, I'd like to know if there legal as well, I'd think you'd need some sort of permission from the record companies. Sorry, I can't help on finding a script because I'm looking for one as well.

I still am not sure if Tabs are legal either, because they aren't acctual tabs (well, assumedly) they are tabs that people have "made up", that just fit the tune. But then again, they are giving them away under the name of those artists etc.

So, who knows. There are however a lot of big lyrics and tabular sites out there, and if they are illegal, then why are they still being allowed to exist? Shouldn't they have been shut down by now?

At this time lyrics are unlicensed and are in the public domain, I don't expect that will last for long.

Late last year there was a lot of publicity about lyric sites and the possibility of license or closure.

A few weeks ago there was more news about licensing lyrics and making sites buy the rights to use the lyrics. Another major cash cow for the record labels.

I would not even attempt to enter this business at this stage. The chances of lyrics being made licensed content seem very high. If the plan goes ahead, the unlicensed sites will undoubtedly be shut down or be forced to buy licenses, a lose-lose situation IMO.

I expect to see this go through sometime over the next year, if I were you I'd try and find a different idea, something that doesn't involve record companies.

I want to know how to search blogs as well, but I can't find that out yet either! lol
