Hey guys. I've searched a lot on these forums and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Sadly the 99c godaddy coupon just expired and I can't use it,

So I am wondering if anyone knows anywhere/any coupon to get .com domains for less than $6.

Thanks so much,
Chris

.

Yes. See below.

nudu,

Once in a while you can get a really good deal on domain registrations
when a Registrar sells domains below cost usually during some kind of promotion.

But you should know that every .COM domain registration costs the
Registrar $7.06.

$6.86 goes to Verisign (Registry).
20 cents goes to ICANN.

Then add on the markup charged by the Registrar.

So to get a domain (.COM) for less than $6 is truly exceptional as
each sale would be a money loser.

There are several Registrars that offer .COM domains for $6.99 so
they lose a few cents and I suppose hope to make it up when renewal
time comes.

That said, yes you can get .com domains for less than $6.

You can get 5 domains (.com, .net and .org) for $5.95 each from Netfirms.

Renewals are $9.95.

Netfirms has been offering this for years.

You could use Yahoo to get it for $2, but it's not that recommended, since they are pretty sly about charging you after you transfer, so you have to remember to transfer the domain AND cancel in their panel. I got a glitch though that let me get a domain for $4 for 2 years from them, and I'm just going to transfer to namecheap in 60 days.

You really won't find much if you want a name for under $6 but I think some of the popular registers. i/e Godaddy, Mydomain.com and Moniker let you register around the $6.95 mark + Icann fees but you will need a coupon which are not hard to find.

nudu,

I don't have the experience of transferring domains out of Netfirms but I
do not believe you will have any problems.

I had some domains with Netfirms that I did not want to renew.

I emailed them and they removed the automatic renewal.

You can call them and ask about transferring out and getting the Auth Code.

You can also register one domain and check out the Control Panel.

I don't think you'll have any problems.

Be cautious about anyone selling domains at below cost, cost prices being $7.06 for .com, $5.18 for .net and $6.95 for .org. Some registries give bulk discounts to registrars who register a lot of domains but I dont think it happens in com/net/org, it does happen for .info and maybe .mobi and certain ccTLDs.

I would say be wary of below costs offers.
It is not unusual for registrars to have promos if you transfer existing names to them but the renewal cost would be higher the next year.
IMO go with reputable companies, it's not worthwhile to go with a fly by night outlet just to save one buck or two.
Also many webhosts will give free domains if you host with them, after all the margin is on hosting not domains. But it not recommended to use the same company for both hosting and domains.
