Hello,
I am about to register my first domain. I hope it will bring in typo traffic for me. The question I have is, is it better, when trying for typos, to leave a letter off in the beginning, in the middle or to just replace a letter in the middle i.e. replace an n with an m. Tahnks, Kdiddy

:imho: problem is if users are like me using a bookmark or excel file where i store my links to browse, that's sure is a lost traffic for you. HTH

usually the first letter used is the good one, in the middle chances are much higher to do a mistake

@OP: if you are planning to register your very first domain in life, i think it would "probably" be better if you regged a normal non-typo domain for selling...... better way to get off to a start ;)
leaving ethical issues of typo-domains feeding off trademarked names aside, the other issue is that there are better ways of making money in the domain industry that you'll also probably enjoy doing. i'm saying all this because it's your first domain :) so you're new i guess......

best of luck.

To a certain extent, I agree with sm. No reason to start off in the business with such a specific niche when you are asking such a basic question... it's indicative of not enough research being done on your part yet.
BUT, if you are sold on the idea of typos, inventory.overture.com will be a good source to check and see if anyone actually types in your typo.
Best of luck,
-Allan

If you're really going to go with a typo as one of your first domains, you might want to avoid TM typos. Those have the potential of getting you C&D letters, or some companies go straight to a lawsuit for damages.

kdiddy, listen to Allan. Typos are research, research, research. You'r gona get a bulkload of poor typos if you dive into the area without proper research and good understanding of what a good typo is. And...Stay away from TM domains!
