Hey all, this seems overdue -- I'm feeling a bit guilty about my 10 Impact / 15-year-old account.
Hi. I'm Corey. I've been a full-time internetter for ~20 years. Always adjacent to this space, but not primarily a domainer. I've had a career in two acts.
In college, I started a web host/registrar called Ubiquity, later acquired by LeaseWeb. Not direct with ICANN (maybe 20K domains through the old Enom reseller program), but a big part of the IPv4 gold rush direct with ARIN with 2x Class Bs. I'll admit that Namepros began as one of ~500 forums with a dedicated advertising board to post server deals in the 2000s. Maybe ~20 of those remain!
After Ubiquity, I got lured into SEO consulting by ex-competitors. That ballooned into an enterprise SEO brand under my first aftermarket domain (northcutt.com). Began as exclusively other web hosts/registrars, working with at least a dozen of the folks that I see with their dedicated threads around here. Various interesting run-ins with a few prolific domainers looking to develop/monetize some ultra-premium TLDs, helped market a few brokerages. By the time I sold Northcutt in 2021, we had drifted upmarket towards clients like McDonald's, Batteries+, Assurant, etc.
Two years ago, I un-retired, joined my friends in Chicago as a partner at orbitmedia.com doing exactly what I did at Northcutt. The chat.com sale lured me back here to dabble a little more and clean up my weird amateur domain portfolio, one more fun outlet to leverage my weird mix of internet knowledge and Python. I've come to really appreciate the wealth of info here; I've been soaking it up like a sponge.
