Type of Contest: Logo Design – “CustomsHaus” or “customshaus”
Prize: $150 USD via PayPal
Contest End Date & Time: September 3, 2014
Size Requirements: I’m seeking a logo/icon that works on a website and can scale for marketing materials and documents.
Color Requirements: Please try to incorporate orange with grey/brown/lime green accent colors or feel free to get creative. Must be versatile and able to be used on various backgrounds.
General Requirements:
  • The design is for a new online app & website named “CustomsHaus” (or “customshaus”) which provides import/export services and trade compliance expertise to help companies understand international trade and customs regulations. The name is a play on the traditional “customs house” which used to be a government building for processing import/export paperwork. Also, according to urban dictionary “haus” means someone who is really good at something.
  • I do not yet have a tagline or supporting catch phrase but am open to ideas.
  • I do not yet have a website. The logo will help inspire the website design and the winner will be considered for the design of the website.
  • This is a new approach to an old industry. The logo should be professional, clean, crisp and modern. It should represent international trade/shipping and regulatory compliance giving the feeling of being streamlined, organized, manageable and secure.
  • Design must be original.
  • Designer must be able to deliver the design in all formats.
  • The company name must be present in the logo along with a graphic icon that can be separated from the text and each used independently.
  • Must be fresh but not too edgy. Words & ideas that come to mind include: trustworthy, knowledgeable, cutting edge, simple, secure, safe, confidential, control, distinguished, fresh, smart, creative, trade, exchange, international, expert, forward-thinking, no more stuck in customs, shipping containers, house, regulations, government, enforcement, government, risky, complex.
  • The design will be sold in whole. Designer will provide any PSDs, fonts, design documents that go with it. All rights will be transferred upon payment.
  • Also, please refrain from using filenames referencing the company name or mentioning the company name in the thread, if possible
If you have questions or need more information let me know!

Best of luck!
Amy

Hello amyM,

I hope to understand what you are looking for.

I made a concept and a change of color.
I hope you like it.

The symbol communicates an idea of a customs house that most people are familiar with. Often found on the dockside at seaports, customs houses were usually imposing buildings that represented the supremacy of customs law.

The symbol is composed of waves, a secure and imposing pedimented 'customs house' and an eight-pointed compass star that acts as a beacon, drawing one in to the symbol.

The type is a clean and modern reworking of Romanesque type from the middle ages. These elements in combination suggest professionalism, trust and security.

Positive and negative versions are shown here, as well as on a dark background. Also shown is the scalability of the logo. Colour schemes to follow...

@Gtraffic: Thank your for the design. I like how you tried to incorporate the sense of movement with the "motion lines" although it almost looks like the package is slipping away. I particularly like #3 but without the airplane and without the slogan bit. The crate/box icon you've used almost makes it look like this is a shipping company rather than an international trade services company and that could confuse customers. Perhaps there is another symbol that we could use in place of the box?

@Dominium: I appreciate the thoughtfulness you put into your design! I love the symbolism but the something about the overall design feels heavy and busy (perhaps it's the oval or the number of "columns" in the house part...?) Do you have other font choices? I would like to see a clear and functional font that is fresh but authoritative. It has all the right elements but the oval seems heavy and maybe make all the letters lower-case. I'm not sure but this is a great draft!

Thanks for the constructive feedback; very helpful! I will work on a lighter feel for the symbol and have some ideas for type styles that are fresh and authoritative. Should have a revision for you tomorrow.

I will try to give an international look.

@webpro75 : Thanks for your design! The arrow and the government house is interesting but are you able to make the house look more like a government building than a residence? I want to convey regulatory expertise in this image.

@Gtraffic : Thanks for the new option but I liked your previous option better! :) The globe icon is a bit overplayed (IMO) and I really want this to stand out from the other companies in this space. Thanks!

Hey everyone, it seems that I'm not yet able to attach images. Probably because I'm new. Anyhow, I had a few ideas that I'd like someone creative to play with so I'll try to describe them.

#1 - What if there was a really simple government building (think triangle roof with 3 columns but not rigid) but the columns sort of looked curved like the "wifi symbol" that somehow attached to the company name?

#2 - If you were to search for the "U.S. Customs & Border Protection seal" it might be interesting to do a really simplified, fresh & millenial spin on that...?

#3 - One of the taglines I'm playing with has to do with making trade compliance "organic" - perhaps there is an idea in there somewhere as well.

Thanks for all the great ideas so far! Love it!
