Hi

I picked the site up to develop a directory type site but it's one of the many projects I've not had chance to run with yet. Wondered what a rough valuation on it would be - any pointers appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Drop them - no value unless I am missing something.

I agree that a directory style site could well be the way forward with this domain. It would be a sizeable development task though and you would need to get your local SEO spot on to make any dent in the market.

Your value is going to depend highly on how you develop the domain - it's inherent value is relatively low, perhaps high $xx at best reseller and you may find it difficult to find an end user.

There's various ways you could develop it;

1) Basic directory site. Free submission and initially target local businesses. Potential, but unlikely to ever have much value.

2) Advanced directory site. Free & paid submission with individual profiles. Probably best to avoid unless you can develop this on a low budget.

3) Vetting & directory site. Full-on development and site management. For this, you will need to vet each company that wants to be listed on the site. Market your site as a directory of local trusted workmen. Have free & premium paid options to make your money. This will rely heavily on utilisting local SEO strategies & is likely to be an expensive startup and ongoing development project. Do some market research and see if there's a gap in the market in particular areas - I know there are similar sites out but you can make them the 'Myspace' to your 'Facebook'.

Hope that helps a little.

They were originally purchased for developing into a "Joomla for Internet Marketing" site (hence the j4im/jForIM) but I simply don't have time right now. I may let them drop, although there's a while before that happens so I'll see if my time's a little less loaded closer to the time. Thanks for the feedback though, appreciated.

Great feedback, thanks. FWIW the original project was what you've outlined in your third option but as you say, pretty labour/cost intensive to start off with so I'll have to do some costings to see how it could stack up.

Thanks again for taking the time to post - very useful, and very much appreciated
