Looks like it's time to trim the file size and take out the java script from loading. I would agree that it's about time that google take this seriously.

Loading time is quite significant characteristic of a website's quality - so of course it can help your website to outrun the competitors if its rather short and to achieve the first SERP places!

As posted awhile ago in some thread, yes it does. This has also something to do with the new Google Caffeine.

How this will ultimately affect the SERP's will be debated for years to come. What gets lost in the discussion is that this can provide more visitors. A few fixes will greatly improve load times which could translate into more visitors and potentially more customers.

apparently it affects around 1% of websites? not sure how true this is

but it will become more important as time goes on

I also read the official google announcement and yes, it says, only 1% of searches are even effected by this "speed factor" and then it is only one of many factors.
The more important thing has always been that if your site is slow to load, people will leave. It is one thing to get people to your site (good rankings), it is another thing to KEEP PEOPLE AT YOUR SITE (which requires GOOD content that doesn't take forever to load)!
Remember the HUMANS! :imho:

Certainly this is a win win situation for everyone.

lighter website, faster pages, happier end users, cheaper bandwidth cost & more efficient use of bandwidth, developers should now care about their coding quality.

Very well said, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. If nothing else it gives us something else to discuss.

Even if loading speed doesnot affect ranking, it should always be our concern since slow loading pages drive visitors away,

I was visiting the Google Webmaster Central blog yesterday. They have a video there that does a very good job of explaining the need for speed.

What comes around, goes around. The long load times have affected the SERPs for years and now it's being talked about as if it were something new. Anything that can be done to improve the user experience, such as faster load times, will in general help in the SERPs.

Well, by now that 1% figure was likely gone up considerably. Either way it makes sense to improve the speed of your website.

yes, long loading time is really a big problem for your SEO and as well bad to your visitors as they will go away if your site is so slow

Yes i heard that Google is going to consider load time as a factor for ranking results . But i think its not very important factor .

Loading time has always been a ranking factor in Google. I'm not sure why they are announcing it like this is something new. Perhaps they are giving this factor more weight in their algorithm now or perhaps they think this is something that needs retelling since they haven't spoken about it for a while.

So let me see if I understand you on this. Are you saying that you are right and Google is wrong about its own search engine?

It's not about right or wrong. It's about circulating old news as if it were new. Over the past 10 years I've experienced this many times where slow loading sites due to large graphics or a bit of code will drop in the SERPs only to pop up again when the site is loading more quickly. For years there have been free websites that will let you check your page loading speed and there are still some out there. Just do a Google search for "check page loading speed" and you'll see what I mean.

It would be nice if Google would add more transparency to the new signal, including if a website's Page rankings are affected by its loading time.

i agree to it. considering the loading time in ranking on SERP. Google now understand the feelings of users waiting fo a site to load
