Does anyone know the percentage of 2 character .orgs that have expired and are now reserved by the registry? Also, am I right in my math when I say there were only 520 to begin with (26 letters x 10 numbers x 2)?

Any help will receive some good rep!

As far as your math goes, I believe you are correct. There were 520 names to begin with, 1296 if you include LL and NN domains. I have a list with the possible combinations if you are interested.

It would be nice to know the percentage that are now reserved.

Technically 1296 2 char's, but that includes the 100 2 #'s and 676 2 letter to leave you with your quoted 520. So 2 char's that are 1 # and 1 letter then, yes, it's 520.

Rep added... thanks for the comments guys! Is there anyone out there who knows how to find out how many are reserved by the registry! :yell:

There're waaaaay too many to check the whois for each one by hand!

You could use DNA to check every 2 char combo (Set 1 thread at the same time, and 20 second delay and let it run overnight), and then any that have the result "name reserved by registry" you would know are long gone... Nothing I'm biting at the bit to do, but feel free to count 'em up ;)

(Check DNA results for ar.org for example)

I've set it to check for only NL.org or LN.org which are the ones I'm curious about. I generated a list of all 520 of them and it's running on DNA right now. I'll let y'all know the results when it's finished. So far I'm through 55 of them and c2.org and b3.org are two that have been seized by the registry (damn shame).

Thanks for the tip Allan. I'd have never thought of it myself as I only know the basic functions of DNA. I'd leave you rep but NP won't let me as I've reached my limit.

Domain Name Analyzer. It's free on the web (somewhere). :)

That's a nifty tool but seems very time-consuming right clicking every name to check the whois. Or am I missing something?

You load in a list of names, click the icon that says "select all", then click Lookup->All Selected. Then it will crank through all the names.
I really don't like the program because it has too much overhead to handle large lists of names. But it is easy to use and will check a small list fairly quickly.

I finished the list and 22 out of 520 were taken by the registry. That's minimum $20,000 worth of these domains gone forever(?) at current prices!

So that answers my question... there are less than 500 two-character .orgs in existence (and I've got one of them :) )
