Hi guys,

Somebody wrote me a mail asking for this domain. I've never sold a domain, so I need help :)

First you need to gather information about the buyer, if possible. Do they seem legit? Did they include their website so you can see their business? If you type in their email addy to google, what kinds of sites does it appear on?

This shows you a little more about who you're dealing with, a private individual, a company, a large corporation, etc. It also might show you why they're interested in your domain, maybe the word salav is part of their current domain string, or appears in their biz name, etc.

Or it may just be a person's name. But it helps if you can find some buyer info.

Because if your buyer is another domainer just wanting to buy the name on speculation, they might only want to pay $50. If it's someone's name, they might be willing to pay $100 - 500 or more. If it's a business or larger corporation they might be willing to pay $500 on up into the thousands. Do some investigating.

One note:
Once you tell this person the price you want, if they suggest that you get the domain name appraised first, IT IS A SCAM. It's called 'appraisal scam', you can search that term on the search bar here and read threads about how it works. If they request an appraisal, do not have anything further to do with them.

After you've done any research, maybe tell us who the buyer is, and we can give you some pricing tips. If it gets to a selling stage, then we can give you some tips on how to do the transaction securely..

You're welcome to PM me if you have any comments/questions about the above but don't want to post them publicly.

Good luck, and welcome to Namepros. Hope the buyer is legit and is willing to pay a good amount :)

Since the buyer contacted you first, it's fine for you to ask them to make the first offer. Ask them what their budget is for the domain.

When we email end users ourselves, it's courtesy and common sense to have a price in mind to tell them. When they email you first, if you don't have a solid price in mind then try asking them to make an offer.

Personally I'd be happy with anything over $250 for this one. If I emailed an end user and they asked how much, I'd probably say $800 and be willing to negotiate down. If they emailed me I'd probably do the same thing, or ask them to make the first offer.

Really it's up to you, how much you need the cash, how attached you are to the name, how much you think the buyer would pay, etc.

Much of this negotiation unfortunately has to be 'blind' because you don't know much info.

Ask them to make an offer; or tell them the price is $2500; or 800; or 400; whatever your gut tells you.

Let us know what happens next, if you don't mind :)
