Difficult to say. LLL are not risky (my personal opinion) : I like very much the extension and has a great potential for various reason already pointed out in other threads. Currently offer on registrations on mitsu.in, whiz.in and others.
Price should be around 3 $ till march (at least at mitsu). Well worth a try considering prices of LLL.com. Please remember that this is my personal opinion (and I am obviously a owner of few LLL.in)

Good News for you is that .IN domain promotional scheme is extended upto 31st March, 2008 (which was originally expiring on 30th December, 2007). All the promo scheme terms and condition will remain same.
Please also note that we are coming out with Great Renewal Pricing for Bulk .IN Domain Renewal from 15th December, 2007, so please wait for next announcement.
However (and I am just guessing) I think that renewal will be closer to dot coms ... so around 7-8 dollars a piece.
