Hey gang -

Is there a website that tracks completed domain sales? It seems to me that such a service would be really valuable, since everyone could look at what certain types of domain names have sold for and compare ours to get a ballpark figure of their worth. Over time enough data could be collected to produce graphs, i.e., one could map out the average prices of, say, three-letter .coms over a year's time and predict future increases.

The comicbook-collecting world has such a service: high-$ comic sales from ebay & the main auction houses are tracked and (for a monthly fee) users can get a ton of data about past sales.

I think this is something our industry could really use. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
AfternicAfternic
DnJournal.com has alot of the high sales listed.

Yeah... but I think a lot of us would gain more value out of seeing which domains are selling for $50 to $5,000

It would also be nearly impossible to keep track of and confirm those kind of sales. The best thing you can do is browse the sales forums and check out the thread stickied in the top of this forum where people can report their domain name sales.

And $50 sales are less than some extensions' registration fees...

The $1,000 limit of DNJournal.com makes sense, :imho:

I understand your utter desire to get a closer look at the market growth but there are few complications involved.
Domain names are not comic books or real estates. Domains can be speculated like stocks and currencies. When someone acquired a name on a particular field, our peers tend to mark up their similiar domains prices as high as the sky. Apart from that tax man will be after your tail if all your sales been reported. So far domain markets are not on inland revenues radar.
Then third factor here is the terror attack from our peers. They'll launch massive typo attack against your newly sold or purchased names. These will have adverse effect on your marketing budget if you're planning to develop into a great site. (typo names tend to direct customers to rival services )
