Link building, but what's a good number?

Hello i have started a shop and i'm going to hire a link builder.
But what is a good number of links to my site (to start out). Do i have to check the other sites for thoose keywords or how do you do?

I thinking about 70 PR4+ one way (non reciprocal) high-quality relevant permanent links,
And 4 keywords x 25 = 100 links (30 with less than PR4)

Thanks i will try with about 100 links to start with. But need to make sure it's high quality links (pr and so on)

Is it important if i use the right keywords in the links to my site?
Should i link to the index page or the optimized page for that keyword?
And should i change the text links all the time or can i use the same link text?

You should use keywords in link anchor text. Better if the site page title has keywords as in anchor text.

If the site is brand new slowly build its backlinks adding good quality links. If its old and its getting a lot of traffic you can can tons of links but try not to spam the heck out of it.

You can try for at least 75 links per day.If you will do more then you may face the problem of spamming.Keep on following the methods like blog posting, article posting, forum posting, social book marking, classified submission, directory submission and press release submission.

Where do you people come up with these numbers to get backlinks?
ANd if you get more, you are spamming?

If I have a link builder or if I do it myself and I can get 1000 backlinks in one day, you best believe I will do it!

That is NOT freaking spamming!

Geesh, too many so called webmasters yell spam and scam without knowing what is what and how is how.

And google could care less how many backlinks you get in one day, per day, etc!
