The scandal surrounding Sanjeev Gupta’s metals empire has taken a new turn after commodities trading houses have launched an investigation into web domains closely resembling their own, seemingly registered to an employee of Mr Gupta’s firm.
The Financial Times reported that the web addresses were registered with an email address from Liberty House, the commodities trading and industrial firm that is part of Mr Gupta’s GFG Alliance conglomerate.
Websites registered to the email account include gunvorsg.com, a name that seems to closely match Gunvor, one of the largest oil traders in the world.
Another address identified by the Financial Times, concordresources.net, matches London metals trader Concord Resources. Mark Hansen, chief executive of Concord Resources, said that the firm would send a cease-and-desist letter to Liberty House over the registration.
