Might want to throw this over to the Expired Domains forum? And remove 0689.net (I registered it, remember? :P)

As soon as there is no more 4 digits left I believe they will. At least >reg fee

40 - 50 domains and .coms

Keep the 4 ltr .nets but realize that .coms rule. I have 40 4ltr .coms and I will not sell any for less than 5K. I have sold 6 over the last 18 months.

And yet, I have my 4 letter .com and planned on letting it expire if I didn't get a decent offer before then.

Are they really that good?

I thought this was a thread about four NUMBER domains.... how did it get confused with four LETTER domains?

Sticking with the topic, I see 4 number dot nets (####.net) are now actively being pursued in the expiring names drop market. It was only a matter of time that these began to generate interest, based on the history of domain supply and demand. Also, when big domain owners like Elequa publicly discuss numerical domains and how they are adding them to their portfolio, others listen (recording of an interview on DomainMasters radio). As for pricing and value of 4 digit dot nets, I would think that owners would need patience to see any worthwhile increase -- unless the domains were above average (1234.net, 5555.net, 2500.net, etc.).

I have been actively following the 4 digit dot com (####.com) market for awhile now, and the prices continue to rise. Some of these sell for three figures in the drop market, some for less. The prices varies with each name, but there is a definite upward trend over the last 8 months (when I was able to get these for $10 + reg fee at Enom).

Here's a sample of closing prices from yesterday @ Club Drop:

3954.COM $70
7293.COM $70
9547.COM $60
8041.COM $70
4172.COM $60
4073.COM $60
9329.COM $100
7403.COM $60
4071.COM $60
8074.COM $60
3904.COM $60
4092.COM $130
4061.COM $60
4035.COM $60

:D

Why are numbers valuable

One reason for the demand for numbers is that in China, people are not very familar with letters, so many web-sites have URLs like 163.com.

Just a question, but why would you want a domain with numbers? If you used it, it would be a severe pain for customers/people to remember it!

well, you could use them for your telephone area-code. in germany you canยดt register your areacode (you canยดt register pure-number.de domains). so if your phonenumber would be 06181-123456 then it could make sense registering 06181.net and others to build up an entertainmentportal or something like yellowpages accessible via 'areacode-domain'.
"whatยดs up in your area? dial 06181.net"

just one thought...

Perhaps so for Western speaking (typing) customers. But you have to remember that the internet is global. And in the near future millions of new users will be coming online for the very first time. Many of these people will be unfamiliar with the Western alphabet but understand the universal language of numbers.

Again, listen to the interview with Elequa (that I linked to above) to get a better understanding of the applications of pure digit domains. Also, we have to consider with the introduction of SMS and other wireless protocols, shorter domains may indeed actually be easier to remember for all of us, or at least easier for our mobile device to remember - based on a system that converts numbers to websites (such as WordDial.com).
