This week there are no less than 4 .LA domain sales in DNJournal :
connections.la : $1,500
adultmovies.la : $1,000
adultfilms.la : $1,000
adultindustry.la : $1,000

This is the ccTLD for Laos, but it's been marketed for Los Angeles too.

What do you think the future holds for .LA domains ? Do you think this extension will get more popular in the years to come or is it just a one-off ?

That official part, as far as I can see, is pure BS. If there is any promotion agreement I have seen none of it - and I wish there was.

But for an obscure TLD (except to the people of Laos, of course) I would say it is as meaningful as any out there, except maybe .TV. "LA" is probably used as much as "Los Angeles" by the people that live there, at least when I was there it was.

There has been effort to create city TLDs - Berlin and New York were mentioned. That may blend in with ICANN's intention to flood the market with specalized extensions. If city extensions become popular (a big if, and surely not going to happen soon) then expect a lot of people confusing .LA for whatever becomes Los Angeles's real extension.

And if the registry (Affilias?) does start hyping the extension in Los Angeles .LA will take off. Not happening yet. And it may not. But as it is, there is a niche market for companys branding themselves as LA.

Those ^ prices seem low to me.

BEWARE!

I've had a .la for a couple of years, not a single character, it's 5 letters. Earlier this year the .la registry snatched it back without any notification. I complained to domainsite.com who got it back (??).

Now it's not showing in my domainsite account again, but at least it still shows me on the whois this time.

Very strange happenings.

What would be a price for MOBI.LA?

I think people are turning to it in Los Angeles as the .com's become harder to get...

I have two I'm sitting on:

nz.la
jjj.la

I don't really like the idea that a ccTLD for Loas being re-brand as a city TLD for Los Angeles. Althought there is sime investment value in .la, but we should at least give recognition that it belongs to Loas.

ccTLD registry should do more to protect their extension before more creative guys start to turn their ext. to other things. Althought, it would bring more revenue to the registry, but, it is as if the country is selling its soul for money. Cheap..cheap...

I dont think its a great idea, but I think its more of a local thing for the city. Some domains that have to do with local business etc will sell for good money other will not IMO but I think its a bit of a waste investing on random LA domains.

.la should be of interest to Singapore domainers, since it would be perfect for Singlish such as...donplayplay.la...letsplay.la, gotohell.la n heehee.la ok..dontbeangry.la

hahaha... I believe Malaysia Chinese do like it. They often use "cincai.la" (means whatever, anything)
