Picked this up while doing research and found that KidShoes.com sold for $38,600 in 2007.

I'm curious as to what NPers think the trickle down value of the .us name would be.

There's little undeveloped value in .us keyword names, save for the premier examples.

Thanks. Isn't there a difference between keyword domains and product domains?

Anybody else have thoughts on this?

In your case, your keyword happens to be your product domain!. What my esteemed friend is trying to say is that the .us tld is not as viable for sale as the major tld's, however, you might find that developing this domain might fetch a much higher value than just the domain name itself.

My appraisal, reg fee...

Thanks. Isn't there a difference between keyword domains and product domains?

Thing is, .com is internationally recognised which means all 6 billion residents of Earth could visit at any time...

.Us is just for the United States which means only 250M could visit usually, assuming the vast majority of them knew about the extension and the rest didn't hate it for some reason.

$50 maybe, much more developed with real traffic and sales.

Kidshoes.biz, childshoes.biz or childrenshoes.biz can be hand regged, as well as childshoes.us. The dominant search phrase is [kids shoes] not [kid shoes]. Kidshoes unspaced can be confused with a site offering children garden hand tools or worse. Wholesale $X, retail $XX.

Thanks guys. I really just bought it due to the .com sale price figuring it had to have some inherent value. I certainly wouldn't have regged it if it wasn't $2.99 at Godaddy.

I appreciate the perspectives.

Two more cents about com/us prices ...

baibu.com $57,000 AfternicDLS 04/07/2010 (source)
baibu.us - not registered
(similar to well known brand)

boiseidaho.com $175,000 private sale 09/05/2007 (source)
boiseidaho.us $128 Godaddy Auction 05/28/2010 (source)
128/175000 = .07% (2007 market peak; private sales may deviate far above or below fair market value)

hm , its examples , but not very good examples imo

the baibu example is not that great since it does not reflect the value of the domain , the 57k price tag on the .com was because of the web site and not the domain .

boiseidaho.com sale for 175k was clearly an enduser sale but the boiseidaho.us was an expire domain auction on the reseller market .

Well, yes. But most of those 6 billion residents are living in mud huts with barely enough money to buy a bottle of milk, let alone new kids shoes.

The US population is over 300M, but then that's not important. What's important is purchasing power, and the US spends something like 30% of all spending in the world. That may decline, but it will remain an impressive share for the near future.

I agree that awareness of the domain is a problem (not sure why anyone would hate it - it's short, geographically targeted and easy to use). I think that the very universal nature of the .com is what will give rise to .us in the future. Like co.uk and .de, it is perfect for businesses that target one country - but in this case a very rich and well populated country.

My issue with kidshoes.us is that it's almost a typo. While "kids shoes" gets 550,000 exact (!?) searches in the USA according to Google, "kid shoes" get 6,600 - not a good number for a .us. I wouldn't take it even for 2.99, simply because there are a million better .us domains still unregistered. (kidsshoes and kids-shoes are both registered in .us and even .biz).

Does that mean you'll take $5 for it? I must admit it is kind of a play on the eyes.

HA! I appreciate the offer but I think it's worth more than that, despite some of the feedback here!

My point is that dot com name juice does not necessarily trickle down to alt TLD exact match SLD names where trickle up poverty is in control.
