getting about 250 uniques per month.

no matter what keyword I use, I am getting low clickthroughs

I have used.

poker
bet
betting
gambling
casino
lottery


Any suggestions for a better clickthrough rate?

Your CTR probably will not change much, but your earnings per click may. Out of all those keywords, I believe that "poker" probably pays the highest. If you are getting more than 10 clicks on that domain per month, that isn't too bad.

to get more clickthroughs... you need to place it strategically on your website while trying not to interfere with your content.
