Kevin Again?

Greetings,

What is the deal with Kevin Lynch? Is he real? Is he just spamming folks in a fishing expedition?

I know that there was discussion of this topic on this site last year, but I only found out because I got an email from him today that led me, via Google, to this forum.

I decided to join and explore further, mainly because this seems like a very reasonable group of people with a sincere interest in the topic. I honestly don't know if I will be a regular or frequent contributor.

Here is what he sent me, to an address that I seldom give out (and which I have not repeated here):

Hello.

We are interested in acquiring cobb.com.
How much do you want for transferring cobb.com to us? We prefer to hear your price rather than making offers. etc. etc.
================================

This sounds legit, but then again, we see a lot of things on the 'net these days that are not what they seem. What do folks suggest? Ignore? Send back a dream price and see what happens?

From the previous thread about this person it was hard to tell what the consensus was.

Any light or insight appreciated.

Stephen
(yes, I do own cobb.com)

You could always reply by offering to sell at a price you'd want to get for the domain. If kevin (or whoever) replies back that he wants you to get an outside appraisal, you can be pretty sure that it's an "appraisal scam". They get you to pay for an appraisal thinking you will sell the name for big bucks, and then their offer disappears.
Let us know what happens if you reply to his offer...

Sounds like the same old appraisal scam.

Probably scam?
Still, worth your 2 seconds to write back with a highball offer.
Just don't ever pay for an appraisal ;)

No harm in responding. I'd tell him you're considering development plans for the domain and would be willing to consider selling for the right price. Tell him you'll entertain an unsolicited offer.

Wow, great info. Appreciate the tips. I was not aware of the appraisal scam.

Thanks...Stephen

It's not an appraisal scam. Its just Yakov style of asking you to sell you domains cheap to him.
