Keeping a domain's history without dealing with the owner?

Is it possible to keep a domain's history without contacting the owner? Is there a special type of auction or procedure that would allow the history of the domain to be kept after it drops or is pending delete?

A pre-release auction will keep the domain creation date. If the domain actually drops/deletes, then it will reset the creation date.

A Pending Delete name will always drop, and all dropped domains reset the Registration Date.
