Hey all, i'm a new member here, so i wanna say thanks before for any help :)

I just bought the domain justtwitter.com because i have a plan on making a blog about Twitter and i thought this sounds really nice, gramatically correct, and it's just beautiful! :D

Then on twitter my friends said to me that i can resell this domain at a very high price. Yet i'm still wondering how much this domain actually worth without any development and high google PR? I will be really thankful if someone help me appraise this domain. :)

Twitter is a trademarked term. There is not much you can do with this domain because of that.

If you have purchased the name within 5 days you can usually get a refund.

The name is worth zero $$. Try and stay away from names that have anything to do with trademarked or made up words that have mass appeal.

Like: googlepages.com - microsoftscreens.com - youtubevideos.com

You will only get into trouble with names like these.

I come across this all the time. Trademarked domains but at the same time I see trademarked domains doing well all over the internet. Take photoshop for example... you know how many photoshop....com websites are out there making money off advertising. Personally I think there is a value in TM domains as long as you don't get caught. But... as far as resale value.... Totally agree w. everyone here. If all you want is resale drop it now.

Wow, so it has zero value? Well, i didn't really want to resell it, just wanna know how much it's worth. :)

@shug
Yeah, that's what really bothering me. I have a friend in twitter runing site called twitterstars.com, and it's really famous. Even Biz Stone (founder of Twitter) knows about this site since it's being aggregated on Guy Kawasaki's Alltop.

Also there's twittercounter.com, twittergrader.com, and many more. Based on that, i guess it's fine to run a normal blog about twitter. :D

Well, i thank so much for every help in this thread. Imagine how stupid it would make me if i tried to sell this domain again. So i appreciate it. :)

TM domains are normally a bad idea. There are exceptions to the rule where people do make a successful site & the TM owner does not pursue them.

Not a risk many people are willing to take or pay for.

even with the TM problem aside it would be a reg fee type of name until developed

It should also be noted that these TM names could be legally taken over by the companies at any time. Traffic would then be redirected to the primary company site. It's seems like a risky venture.

Except when there is an agreement. I have in that past contacted a company asking if I could run a unofficial forum on a domain with a TM in it. They have replied given permission on the understanding I made sure nothing negative was posted against the company. Of course contacting the company can itself cost you the domain, but better to find out before you spend time developing it.

Right now there are probably 100's of domains with "Twitter" being used in various domain names that have already developed or in the process of being developed. Here are just a few below:

twitterbuttons.com
twitterholic.com
twitterstars.com
twittercounter.com
twittertise.com
twittertroll.com
twitteralerts.com
twitterfall.com
twittervision.com
twitterberry.com
twittercal.com
twitterless.com
twitterim.com

These are just a few websites that are doing well right now. I believe that any domain name or website that reflects "Twitter.com" in a good light will be just fine. Don't let anyone scare you into not buying any domain names with twitter in them and developing them as there are hundreds of people doing that just now! It is these people alone who helped Twitter.com grow to what it is today and will continue to help grow in the years to come.

I am sure there are also hundreds of domains being used with Google / Yahoo / Microsoft / etc. If the company takes offense to it they can easily win a UDRP for a made up term. That is the bottom line.

It is risky to spend a lot of money developing a site based on another companies famous made up TM.

Thats the thing, there is no point in spending hundreds of dollars on it and you have to pretty much be prepared for the worse.

Before you spend a penny on development make sure you get their written permission. Otherwise you may develop a profitable blog only to have them establish a claim and take it from you, plus damages.

Otherwise it is an unsellable name.

Good luck.

100% TM Name

Why to spend your time and money on a domain which can be taken easily...by others.

Grab a good non TM and spend your time and money..

Avoid the risk. Is a $10 domain with no resale value worth a whole lot of possible legal headaches down the road? Nope.
