status-resolved JPEG - Why Not?

Of all the image extensions that are available to use when you upload or add a image to a posting.
Why can't the "jpeg" extension be used?

For me, it just a minor inconvience (have to change extension)

Is it a extension with "vulnerabilities" or "security issues"
