I'm new to web development, but was extremely excited to get Joomla to work on one of my webpages - no more editing a million HTML pages in order to change one detail.

But I find it very lacking, I don't like the content management system and templates are too hard to make on my own.

Can someone redirect me to another site like Joomla? (What is it called, a content script?).

Anything else that I can install on servers and have people update semi-easially. Not WordPress/Movable type either please.

Thanks so much,
Oly

Even though templates are hard to make you can learn how to edit ones to fit your need. In my experiance JOOMLA is the nicest and most user friendly CMS.

Joomla is defenitly nice. PHPNuke is your choice for a BIG site but I find it rather complicated to install.

I tried also CMSimple, very simple to install. There are nice free templates available (easily adapted) and YOU DON´T NEED A DATABASE (which in my case was great because I only have 3 DB´s with my hosting service which are already busy, and this site I host for a local organization as a favour)

Xoops is the best for me.

I tried many CMS and didn't find what I really wanted - I even built one - but finally I switched many of my sites to Drupal.

It allows you to maintain pages, stories, display objects where you like, so I could easily migrate a static site while keeping the original URLs.

And maintenance is easier as all websites use the same installation.

A few examples: http://www.dnslinks.com/ and http://www.askadoctor.net/

I also use Wordpress on many of my sites, despite it is a blog based software, it can easily be used as a CMS. Example here: http://www.phear.org/news/

Hope you will find something that matches your needs :)

I am currently using Joomla,Wordpress,Xoops and Guppy. They all have advantages and quirks built into them. You can always find a work-around to make them do what you want but as packaged, I find Joomla has a lot of flexibility and function options but it gets confusing to use.Wordpress is simpler to use but has function limitations.Xoops I am still unsure about but I like the navigation through the admin control panel.Guppy is handy when you don't want to use a database and has a simple visitor stats module but support is limited unless you are fluent in french.I've used PHPNuke in the past and it has all kind of functionability but is more suited to a community type of site which is not in my current needs.
