I am from Australia and Australian TV Show Hey Hey It's Saturday recently has recently made world headlines about a bad comedy amateur sketch about The Jackson Five and the Michael Jackson person had his face painted White.

The comdey sketch is called Red faces where people who enter, usually are really really so bad, that it is actually funny.

See the Sketch here: YouTube - hey hey it's saturday - jackson jive

Harry Connick Jnr was a Judge on the show and was quite upset about the skit:

See here: Analysis: 'Blackface Jacksons' embarrassing to Australia - CNN.com

I believe there has been a huge over reaction about this.

I lived in Holland for a couple of years and one of the Dutch side kick traditions of Santa Claus is named Zwarte Piete (Black Pete) zwarte Piete - Google Images

See Black Pete here on YouTube YouTube - zwarte piete

If people are going to get upset about a comedy show, why don't they pick on the Dutch Tradition of white people painting their face black and parading around as a black person. This has happened in Holland for centuries and still today it is accepted without any major problems.

For crying out loud. I don't see what the problem is about the skit.

What do you think?

well ofcourse you wouldn't see anything wrong w/it...your from australia....the country's record of it's treatment and attitude toward the aborigines is less than stellar

i guess if you're a racist then racist humor wouldn't offend you would it?

It may be racist but 546034750347850785348057349056834956842374823659023462394723908562394 people didn't even know why the hell it was racist.

ask like 1/10 kids here, they had no clue about it, they don't teach anything like that in history. People need to bury racist things like this in the past and realise everyone has equal rights now. It was a stupid friggen stunt, people are only calling it racist because he picked up how it could be mistaken as racist. They played the same skit 20 years ago and nobody bitched then. get over it.

I did't see any problem with it either. Seems like lots of Americans are just exageratingly sensitive about racism. Blacks joke about whites and I don't see it as a problem. It's just going too far IMO.

it's about being nice and kind to your fellow man. red, white, brown, black...we are all brothers and sisters. a joke might be funny to you or your kids, but it's hurtful for others.

it's like bullying....it's funny when it's not happening to you...and the guy that is getting bullied, well he needs to get over it..

and while i agree that racism from other ethnic groups is equally as wrong, it doesn't make racism as a whole right.

it's ok to stand up for other people, it's ok to show compassion for other races..
maybe i'm just weird......

Yes, Australians treated Aboriginal people badly in the past.
We also have given them plenty of support since.

How that has ANY relevance to the comedy routine is what is in question.

Comedians have a LONG tradition of light-hearted racial and cultural comments. ONLY people with no sense of humour would have found this routine offensive.

How is it that Sasha Baron Cohen is considered Funny when he makes fun of various ethnic stereotypes?

WHAT is offensive and rascist is "Some People" calling people from the Middle East region of Asia "TowelHeads" or Similiar Mindless comments.

What is offensive is "Some People" treating most people as their "Inferior"

Disclaimer:-
I am part Australian Aboriginal as is my wife. I also have Chinese, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, French, and Anglo-American Ancestors.

I consider myself as a HUMAN not some MINDLESS tag based on Geo-Political, religious or Ethnic origin.

Good point. It's all about sense of humour and the British and Australians have tons of it. That comedy sketch had nothing racist about it except in that American judge's head. Did he ever complain about Baron Sacha's Kazakhstan characterization?

consider the possibility that if somebody racist, then racist humor will be funny to them. when you look down at a group of pple, then when you hear racist humor...well, it's funny to you. but if you have a respect and empathy for other cultures and other people...

i guess the knee jerk reaction here is to defend racist humor as being no big deal....but i dont' think racist humor is funny, and i get offended easily by it...no matter who does it. imo, racist humor is a form of hate speech, but that's how i see it.

somebody suggested that i didn't have a sense of humor because i didn't find the racist clip funny....ok, maybe your right. as the odd one out on this board, i try to live by the golden rule and can't help but have a deep respect and admiration for all cultures, races, and religions....i don't think that black face skits are funny...

btw, i don't think sbc is funny...i think he is an idiot

Can't really say it was funny, the routine sucked regardless if some consider it racist or not. In the comedy world I can't understand why they would waste people's time with such a poorly coordinated act. I give this an F-. The domain pimp disapproves.

The sketch clearly went over your head, it didn't even relate to aboriginals.

The Dutch tradition that you're speaking of is not something I had ever of here in the U.S. But after looking at the photos, that's pretty offensive as well.

"Blackface" is something that was used in old vaudeville shows, and black people were portrayed as unintelligent, clumsy... something to be laughed at. And those wounds still run deep today in the U.S.

Just as many Americans are unaware of Zwarte Piete, perhaps the gentlemen performing on Hey, Hey, It's Saturday may have been unaware of how offensive their act would be to an American, especially one who has such close ties to the Black community in his hometown, like Harry Connick, Jr. does.

I couldn't get past this.

It made me face palm and dismiss your post, this stupid skit isn't about Australian aboriginals.
