Have spoken to a couple folks NBC local stations in our markets trying to forge deeper relationships.

http://www.dayton.tv/News.aspx

Looks like we will be able to syndicate NBC local news videos in the next couple months.

Starting out the relationship with Local News Headlines or Local News Videos with a commitment to get more video from the affliates in Q2 08.

All the HTML for Dayton.tv and the GEOs is here, finishing up this week.

GP sounds like good news Congrats, but I am a tad confused by this news as recently you posted the following in this thread:

http://www.namepros.com/dot-tv-appr...ine-advertising-to-grow.html?highlight=go.com

And the comment "media companies paving the way for .TV". I laugh, lets see NBC screwed up Snap.com and ABC couldn't make go.com work very well. So I would not accept any partnership with a media company, they don't have very good track records.

Very odd.....indeed.

Speaking to NBC about content, not distribution.

Also, dealing with the Local folks, not corporate types in LA.

And its not a partnership, I just asked. Anybody could syndicate their content.

GP as Geo owners we all have distribution but need traffic and content. Media companies (like NBC Dayton) can lead the way by helping us with content and traffic, that is in effect a form of partnership. Looks like we are on the same page after all. Keep up the good work!

If you don't have traffic, then you don't have "good" distribution.

Sorry to ask....can't anyone do this just by going to their local sites and grabbing the vids?

I believe I said that Bulldog and I agree with that statement.

One competitor has been touting that as a competitive advantage.

Jeff there is alot of phone calls going on between the GEO TV owners.

I'm getting 2-3 inbound calls every day since the beginning of the year. People seeking my thoughts on GEO TV. In particular, alot of folks want to know about competiting business models. I figured I would just post on the board since all the GEO TV owners lurk on here.

Spoke to one person yesterday for the first time and 60% of the conversation was about competiting business models.

In reality, no .TV GEO TV owner is a competitor. They don't have traffic. We have 250K uniques a month I can cross promote my GEO TV properties to this audience. We have 3K local advertisers. I don't have to do deals with other web sites, because I have model advantage being able to take advantage and play arbitrage with the existing pay per click advertising offered on these sites. We have deal with large national brands and advertising agencies representing hotels throughout the US.

My true competitors are the Louisville.com's, Respond.com's, and Superpages.com of the world. People who are well capitalized, have a larger team than we do, and who have are well defined footprint.

I have noticed the same thing, getting 3 to 4 inbound calls a week (including new ones) from geo.tv owners seeking my thoughts.

This is a good sign as I do feel as GP correctly points out other geo.tv owners are not our competition so it makes sense to share ideas and help each other. I am channel locals biggest fan on this board as I would love nothing more than to see all geo.tv do well. We all have way bigger fish to fry :)

I think George's comments on geo.tv comes from possibly a decade or more of experiance, both through the good times and through the heartache and pain of lessons learnt, but it is all experiance - which is invaluable.

I sometmes wonder why George so very readily gives of himself , including hard earned secrets in his areas of expertise.

I concluded some time ago that whilst George is certainly in this game to make money, he has a genuine concern for people who do not have a clue as far as the way real websites work, the monetisation models, be it geo or any other type of site...and he hears as well as I do, alot of "fluff" eminating.....some would even call it BS........

And so, despite himself, George is offering his hard earned lessons to anyone who cares to take heed........

I for one would listen very carefully indeed........

James I could not agree more, many with no experience in the media business act as though they have an understanding of the media world. I have worked in the entertainment industry since 1997. I have experience on both the business side and the talent side of the media business working at development/ agency companies, the legal side, and on the talent side. I have studied the progression of online media since then. I had contacts at many established .com start ups in 1999-2001 before the bust taking meetings to create online content at the old DEN (Digital Entertainment Network) and Wirebreak.com back 1999/2000. I met Eric Eisner (Michael's son's) around the same time who launched a start up called theromp.com. I saw the mistakes people were making. These bloated companies were living high on the hog burning through valuable cash and the online video technology was not there to support the vision. Then over the next few years I realized that the traditional media companies were slow to get back into the game and I saw an opening.
