I work as a civil engineer in a company with 27 years service, part of my job was in a research and development project which was sold to another company. They are now seeking my services at a reasonable £50K ($88K) pa this is 10% more than my current salary and benefits and I must admit I am tempted, however my length of service and knowledge of my current employment is saying hold back.

In the current economic climate, what would you do? chase the money or sit tight, I enjoy my current work. I have 9 years to retirement.

The grass is not always greener on the other side. IMO stay where you are!

I agree with deet, if you like your job then keep it! If not, then that is a very healthy salary.

It's nice to be wanted, bring a copy of their offer to your next evaluation.

As long as your job is secure I would say stick it out where you are now.

it's not all about the money after all you said that you enjoy your current work. and that's all that matters. enjoyment and contentment.

at this point i think it depends on where you're happy. 10% gets sliced in half after income taxes, and staying longer at your current employment probably gives you better benefits once you retire. besides, they might get you a cake on your 30th year anniversary. ;)

As you are happy I agree, stay :tu:

Money really is not everything. Security, the fact you are happy and the knowledge you have make up for the little extra (after tax :p) you would get..
