As we close-out the month of May my thoughts are dotTV has turned the corner and is on the path to a great future!

With the real launch of Me.Tv, May 1rst., we now have a destination. Not everyone is on board, but its a train with a long tail -so folks can hop on, or off, anytime. A long tail that also spurred-on a market increase in sales and after-market sales... with the biggest .TV sale of the year, DE.TV!

I bought my first dotTV in 2001 and I feel better about the future of the extension now than I ever did before!

Care to share your perspective on the month of May, 2007 and dotTV??

I will provide my thoughts.

The ME.TV launch was good. A quick upgrade is good. However, we have a long way to go. Until CNBC is reporting that XXX.TV is going public or your friends start saying, hey have you checked out XXX.TV on a weekly basis; our best bet for success is wide adoption by the traditional B&M TV Stations.

Of course as you know, traditional media companies take a while to change. But Landmark with HamptonRoads.tv appears to be forward thinking and will hopefully lead the way in converting from WWBT12.COM to WWBT12.TV

Traditional media has started to use .TV. IMO, its gaining mainstream adoptance at a very fast pace. The .TV momentum is in FULL SWING.

They have started to use it, but we need more than 50% of US TV stations to use it.

Im happy to see .tv come to fruition.

Im also happy to pat myself on the back and be proud to stand with the handful of domainers at this forum who stood with me several years ago when all were saying .TV never stood a chance.

This is just the beginning friends, .TV is hot property nowadays, even the big .com acquirers want a piece of the action. Whether you have premium or non premium registrations (like me) its time to add an extra zero to the end of your personal valuations... Go .TV....

Its unique, in a league of its own, has web 2.0 written all over it and is not trying to rival anyone... Could it be any better.. :)

Great post eyedomainous. Here are my two cents: The month of May has been the launch of DM platform for .tvers however I am sure DM will face what many social networking video sites are facing which is trying to make monies out of video sharing sites. If you look at the Carson Daly page the number of increased friends is very little per day. I think they have not released a revenue sharing model yet because it is not as easy as it sounds. There charges for a .TV name are higher than .com because Verisign needs a minimum take. To run the platform as DM is doing offering all that is included with registration is no doubt an expense to DM as well or some might say an investment into .TV. Membership in the network is not skyrocketing and that concerns me. I do not seeing this platform benefiting all premium .TV holders at all. There is no way any revenue share will cover annual premiums of 1K etc per year. To make even 35 dollars will not be easy, imo.

I have seen many great .TV sites come and go. One of my personal favorites was DNN.tv which was a real estate site I really liked. I check a few weeks ago and to my surprise it is already gone. No matter how great it was it obviously did not make enough to keep afloat. I do not mean to be negative as I have invested heavily in .TV but until I see a working model in the industry itself in this genre I will be on edge. Weblo.com is a good example of a platform with a revenue sharing model in place that makes pennies literally.

As far as sales, this was a record month but I think but I would place NP sales in a different category of measure. The buyer and seller are both from our board which works out great but to me the sales outside this passionate .TV board are the sales that matter. We already know that we have accepted .TV but to really measure the extension is to see end users (companies) accepting the extension. I know this is probably taking place via NDA which is why it is so hard to see growth like we would want too.

Again, just my opinion.

Yes, and you have to remember that a large number of ME.TV sites/domains went to staff as May 1st gifts I understand. There really isn't that many new ME.TV sites being registered. On the one hand this is a little worrying because I'm sure the take up isn't anywhere what was expected but then again, we plough our own furrow so to speak and have the facilities to bring in a reasonable number of visitors to these pages - potentially.

As has been mentioned, the crucial thing will be the integration of revenue tools and this might determine the future of .TV. As it is, I'm not sure how attractive it is to the uninformed user.

I will just about hit 5,000 views for one month on my main domain (which got 2 click thrus on sedo the previous month) so I can't grumble too much but I do want to be making money out of this.

As always very insightful. I agree. I have sold 95% of my .tvs to forums. But 95% of my other sales have come from these same forums. So for me it does not really matter. The other percentage goes to sedo.com, which I have seen an increase in .tv bids for sure. I have actually completed majority of my high $$$ .tv sales at that "other" forum. I just dont ask for appraisals or talk about .tv there because they blast you mercilessly. All in all I agree with your statement SKG, it just depends on your business model. If you are hoping for massive enduser pricing, forum to forum sales are not helping as much.

I think me.TV will give greater exposure of .TV to people all over the world.
Slowly, there will be many great .TV developments rising, and more known media companies will start using .TV.
I believe that .TV is a long-term investment, and ultimately, we will see good things from our investments.

I will release my sale later next week, it will top DE.TV once I received the funding. I already pushed the name to the buyer.

I will let king.net and dnjournal to cover the sale to make it more .TV valuable in the future. More money for .TV investors.

Stand by!

Watcher...you tease us too much :)

but I'll be patient for another great .tv sale.

Regarding the month of May...I made a lot of geodomain purchases in March and April in anticipation of May's re-launch.

I am pretty happy with the re-launch and have enjoyed the energy here. I have been happy with the traffic to my .tv site in my sig so overall, I am happy with May.

I had high expectations for May but probably overhyped myself. So, I am happy with the smooth, professional re-launch of .tv and am comfortable with my time spent and financial investments.

Nice one Hardworking.Com..............in my sale to JohnTV I asked if he was prepared to bet against a bigger sale being achieved in the next three moths...

Wisely John TV turned down the bet!!

Good luck Sir with your sale - well done, and thank god its not an NDA!!!

In how lng can you expect to make the sale public??

Congrads, but why did you push the name before receiving the money? Was it in Escrow?

Yes through escrow.

This sale will benefits every .TV investors, surely I'm one of them. This will offset all the spending I did for .TV extension and more premium coming up for reg. Geo and generic .TV easily sell it self.

By the way, what do you expect after the promo especially for premium names. I just hope it will remain the same so more investors will jump in. I know a lot of domaineer in other forums are not supporting .TV, though it's not too late for them to join us still many fish in the ocean.

My parked domains are being indexed in google, yahoo and msn now, it will be interesting to see just how well these domains do, seo-wise.

I am very upbeat about the near and long term future and, as I've said in other posts, I'm here for the next forty years, so at SOME point, the investments will pay off for me. At the very least, the increasing values of my domains are outpacing the cost of inflation and yearly renewal fees, so it's all good.

parked domains don't do well seo wise because of duplicate content.

Well, parked meaning enom's .TV tools, which allow for unique development but no actual hosting fees.......
