I knew it was getting late ( 5.20 in the morning here ) but this post got me thinking ' what the hell is it about ? '

Just saw it. Very cool!
I think its registry setting, and also think that domain names are not limited to letters and numbers only (look at IDNs). So something like that is possible to make.
