Do you think its worth registering some Italian names?
Is there a big enough market, as i've not seen any sell on Sedo.

Because you cannot reg a .it if you are not a resident of Italia. And the transfer might be difficult.
I tried twice and my names were taken by the registrar twice and I got refund twice.
Maybe someone can tell how to reg a .it, for international domainers, of coz.

www.winvista.it should be mine if I made it. %%-

I've considered it a couple of times, but just for fun when making bnc'ers :) The market for .it domains is almost non-existent ouside Italy itself..

This is not true. It says even on Italy's NIC website, that members of the European Union can register domain names under the .it namespace.

nic - it (domain registration > rules) said:
4. Registration
Domain names with the ccTLD ".it" can be only assigned to individuals or ogranisations belonging to a European Union (EU) member state.
Source - http://www.nic.it/RA/en/domini/regole/regolamento.pdf

On another note:
Have you tried NameCheap? They have great prices on .it

Also, the member here -JDT- is a resident of Italy and has some .it domains. You might want to speak with him about the registration process.

Best of luck with your Italian endeavour :)

That is really strange. ".it" used to be at NameCheap.

Well, I guess its not anymore, maybe nic - it had too many problems with them.

You can register .it via Tucows.
EU presence requirements: natural person or company.

The process is bureaucratic and takes a few days with letter of assumption of responsability - LAR (in Italian) to be faxed. I've done it once.
The good thing is that the TLD is reasonably priced and the '.it' suffix allows interesting expressions :imho:

Correction:

It is Registerfly that had the .it domain names.

check out the pricing list:
http://registerfly.com/info/price.php

Seems like a very good deal to me :)

If you're a resident of a EU member state ;)

Steve,

I believe registerfly is a Tucows reseller for .it (perhaps for .at .de too). So I guess you could bypass them.

I don't see any prices at Tucows, I've never actually had any experience with their OpenSRS system.

What are the prices for .it.

It seems like a big hassle to do through Tucows:

I dont think they look for IP Location. Personally i think they take the Credit Card information and if your not fro it you cant register a (dot)it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks again people, I actually registed some .tv names using registerfly!!
I'm hanging fire on the .it idea for a while, as a lot of the names i had in mind are taken (i've ordered the Italian dictionary though, so who knows !!)

Got a few .tv names, I think it seems to have more potential!
