Front page doesn't show many more active users than normal. I'd guess it's either a server issue, DOS attack, or bombardment of indexing bots.

The server is likely experiencing MySQL overload, just needs some maintenance to make it work smoothly again.

Was very sluggish yesterday...very long page loading (1min+)

RJ must have forgotten to zap the hamsters, they weren't working at full capacity.
