Is Yahoo done with search?

Among the many windmills Jerry Yang tilted at in his brief career as Yahoo's CEO was his devotion to Web search. It veered on an obsession for him. It played into his decision to resist Microsoft's offers to shower him with cash, first for his whole company, then for just its search business. Is it a coincidence, then, that Yahoo's top search engineer has left a day after Yang stepped down? A tipster tells us Sean Suchter resigned yesterday, and speculates that he may be joining Microsoft.

crisis, scale backs and recession are all over the place, but not yahoo.

Things surely are not looking good... But Jerry has left so perhaps they will finally get their act together. This whole thing has been painful to observe. We owe so much to Jerry and Yahoo.

I think catching google at this point in search will be hard for anyone, I think someone needs to come up with something new and fresh which gives us an alternative to google in what may end up being an industry with 1 major player.

If Microsoft successfully acquire Yahoo, I guess Google will still on top.

We've seen new and fresh. Just look at ask. Google is just good, skilled, talented and professional. Hard to beat.

yahoo is ahead

MSN is behind Yahoo in search volumne in the US when you examone comscore data. I'm sure MSN wants to improve on that number because of the long terrm potential for revenue growth from search.

:lala: that's the other way around for me, Yahoo is far more better than MSN's search result.

With the engineers behind Yahoo's search engine now working under Microsoft should we expect for MS to buy Yahoo's search engine share?

Yahoo still has a big market share outside US. AOL is almost exclusive in US. MSN got its share only thanks to its OS. All libraries don't care to change the search engine default.

Yahoo still has a big following in Asia, I don't think they will disappear totaly in the search engine market, but they should really improve their system.
