I heard from my friend that Yahoo! under the current scheme of 2.99$ domains put ads on websites for this low price!

I want to buy some so want to confirm...is this true or false??

Help me in taking right decision!

I have a domain with them but no ads too ... I doubt they will put ads as it was not part of the deal when I signed up for their offer a month ago.

If you point the NS to a host to host a site or toa parking service to park it, how could they show ads?

What your friend meant, probably, is if you reg a domain with yahoo and you don't change the NS, they will park it just like al registrars do. The parked page will then have ads, just like every other registrar.

I don't want to break your wings , but ...

"Customers are limited to one Offer per customer on a single account for customer's own purchase only and is non-transferable, and may not be combined with other offers and discounts, exchanged or redeemed for cash."
(from the bottom of the page with the offer on the Yahoo small business site)

Try googling or yahooing the word "domain" ...
There is a $6.95 (+ $0.25 ICANN fee) GoDaddy domain registration offer (unlimited amount) .

Regarding ads ... if you use the free starter page , there is only this line "Powered by Yahoo! Web Hosting. Copyright ยฉ2005 Yahoo, Inc" at the bottom of the page . I think they used to have a banner also at the top but I checked and they don't have that any more . Of course , if you forward the domain somewhere or use webhosting , they cannot put adds on it .

the ads only apply if you use the starter webpage. If you don't use the starter page, then you are fine. I have domains there, never had ads.

Always look for the fine print:
1 Web Hosting and Merchant Solutions discount offers are open to new customers that purchase Web Hosting Starter or Merchant Solution Starter plans and apply for 3 months after which the then current monthly or annual fees will be charged. Domains, Web Hosting, and Merchant Solutions discount fee offers expire on and must be redeemed prior to 3/8/2006. No other notice of the expiration of this Offer will be given. All offers are open to new Yahoo! Small Business customers only, and are only available through Yahoo! Small Business. Customers are limited to one Offer per customer on a single account for customer's own purchase only and is non-transferable, and may not be combined with other offers and discounts, exchanged or redeemed for cash. Other terms and conditions apply; see the Yahoo! Small Business Terms of Service when you sign up. Yahoo! expressly reserves the right to change the price or features of these services in its sole discretion at any time.

Basically they give you a break on a domain price with purchase of their web hosting. Actually there are plenty of other web hosting providers that will give "free" domains if you buy their hosting packages. You really have to look at the whole package to see if its a value. If all you want is a domain, it really isn't.

the $2.99 is for new customers without hosting required. You don't have to buy the hosting.

Iโ€™ve heard some bad things about yahoo as a registrar. I think you would be better off paying a little extra to a company where domain names are their primary business.

P.S. Iโ€™ll be charging 2ยข for this advice, I just thought Iโ€™d let you know in advance.

The way stuff is put in such fine print (like nearly invisible) is basically scamming people. By law they have to have it there for you to read but there's no law on how visible it has to be!

This fineprint problem not only occured here as you said...but in almost most offers...There should be a strict law on making fineprint conditions and terms almost 75% size of Normal text!

:hehe:

No way. There's no medicine for people's stupidity. OR - if one is stupid, no medicine is gonna help.

What I mean (and learned the hard way) that automatically accepting all TOS and whining later isn't very good for my (or everyone's else) image, so now I am reading and at least trying to understand all the fine print and all TOS *BEFORE* accepting them. If there wouldn't be fine print, people like me wouldn't know where to look for the possible caveats. :)

In all honesty it does not matter what size the small print is the majority of people do not read it. You could have it in 10 foot high letters and people would still blindly accept it.
