just a few weeks after i soft launch my site(name created off my head!) ,
someone(np"er???) bought the .net extension.

is this good or bad? the person(s) 's site is still under construction!!

shall i proceed to claim
trademark violation for the name;)

If you have the .com then I wouldn't worry too much about the .net. (unless he copies your site)
Probably wont get much traffic anyway.

hope it wasent a nameproer. perhaps offer them reg fee for it.

I think it's good for you since he helps you to make the name more valuable by taking another extension.

I would not get involve in litigation since you own the .com - He "can only help you" not because of the above reason but also with search engine.

to be honest there isnt much you can do, if a .com registration was a sign that made the term copyrighted then it wouldnt be possible to have sites with different owners having the same name but on different extensions ie all extensions would be run by the same person.

The best way to deal with this is:

Build an awesome site and kick a** ;)
