**is a bunch of amateurs who give a bad name to the domain biz. There should be some law where you can get into the domain industry only at the age of 16 and up.

i saw this on another forum and would like your reaction to this (im not saying the forum or what the ** was... only saying youd all get annoyed at it)

Maybe unfair, but there are times you could understand their frustration.

Then again, immaturity is not always an indication of age.. many older people might fit into that category as well.

I dont think its fair some people just start at a young age and up being pros making lots of money before most of us do which makes a certain number of people jealous thats all it is really... jealousy...

hmmm....for me its all about the skills and the talent, which ever age group you belong. this industry isnt about how young or old you are but how you do it properly....

Age Means NOTHING online, aslong as you have maturity and responsibility.

Its Pure and simple jelousy

I don't care... He has the right to his own opinion. I mean if it was actually a law then It wouldn't be fair. But then again there are a lot of unfair age restrictions that we just have to live with.

Oh, it's VERY fair. What makes it that way is exactly the right to an opinion, whichever that might be.

Fair or not, who cares?

It sounds to me like the sour rambling of someone who couldn't sell domains here or someone who had their account suspended.

I think anyone under 18 should be not be able to register a domain. Legally speaking those under 18 can't sign contracts. So every single domain registrar and hosting company that allows for under 18 yr olds to sign up under an agreement can't really enforce that agreement onto the kid. As a matter of fact a parent could sue the hosting company or the registrar if legal actions take place.

Scenario: A 14 year old registers nintendo-fansite.com and then starts to post warez. Nintendo decides to sue the kid...but as a parent I would want to sue A) the hosting company and B) the registar. I am not saying I would win but this is a scenario which I see as possible. Domainer to most is a business and in the business world kids should have limits. They are generally not mature or intelligent enough to deal with business. There are exceptions of course and I have done solid dealings with many minors....however....every time I pray nothing goes wrong otherwise I am pretty sure I am screwed since I am the adult. Any judge would shame me for dealing with some kid without parental consent. If I hire a kid to do some work for me...and the parent decides to be a jerk...the parent could sue me for taking advantage of his kid.

You can't legally bind a minor without parental consent and that's the short of it.

You can disagree all you want but that's the reality.

Exactly my point...then you have the oppotunity to be irresponsible and I who would I go to if you violated my copyrights or spammed me? Of course most under 18 won't agree with me.

I agree with labrocca in some points and understand his position on others; the only error I find in his post is the opinion about minors not being 'intelligent' enough. I don't think intelligence is a matter of age. That line should read 'experienced' instead. Just my 2 cents.

//Not a Minor, BTW.

He's not banned at NP. But if he's so dissatisified with us, then why does he keep coming back here? In fact, why is he online right now? ;) (note: he has a different username on dnf as on np)

Experience may have been a better of choice for wording and I almost went with that.

i believe some people have a point in there.. but not all od adult are doing it properly in the biz

If only people over 16 (or 18) were allowed to buy domains then I beleive that the domain name industry wouldnt benifit at all.... infact think about it this way... if 600 13 year olds wanted to get into the domain name business , most of them would have lost interest by the time they get to 16/18!!! so the domain name prices/the industry would be affected

I wish you could have a maturity test...

It is exceedingly silly to have a law like this. Not every fourteen year old kid wants to post warez...

You can't judge maturity by age.

Not silly at all. Very wise in fact.

That law is actually there to protect minors, not keep them in chains. Without such a law, you would see more cases of adults *legally* taking advantage of kids. Like if a kid with a brand new $1,000 watch agrees to exchange it for a $50 concert ticket he "simply had to have", his parents can have that deal nullified.

But with that protection, as labrocca points out, comes the possibility that a world-wise minor can legally take advantage of unsuspecting adults. Unfortunately, there's no way to have one without the other.

I think that real ages should be scrapped, and a "maturity and experience age" should be put in place. Whereby everybody takes a test, and their age is presented based on their level of maturity and experience....

Would never happen, but a nice thought.....
