Is this Estibot valuation a bit too high??

I was looking up random domains on estibot, and saw this:

Link

Do you think it would really sell for that?? Does anyone know how much the domain has been sold for in the past?

Free.com is a domain that would sell for several million dollars. It is probably one of the top 5-10 possible keywords to have in .COM

I could see it selling for something near that price, especially with the traffic.

But if you check on alexa, Free.com is linked to Vod.com, so I'm not sure how much of that traffic is actually for free.com.

But...who would buy it though? Without knowing it's actual traffic and parking revenue, I don't see how we can value it at several millions...or am I way off ?

Last year i sold a two word .com to an end user for $12,000. Out of curiosity i looked up that name after reading this post and Estibot valued it at $18,000!

So either Estibot was off by $6,000 or i sold it to cheap

Free.com is a $5M+ domain IMO. I can not think of many domains I would rather have than it personally. It is just one of the best possible domains there is period.

Copy & Concur!

FREE.com have incredible potentional! Even as a standalone domain witout website, traffic or backlinks, this baby would easily sell for several million dollars :sold:

$5 Million is a very realistic price in my opinion.

Nice name, but nobody is paying $5M+ for it.

I don't see the kind of development potential that would warrant spending millions on it's domain.

Thomas Friedman would disagree with you (that free.com is lower value).

Well... It's recession times! You could launch a site that keeps track of free offers for things like, services, software, entertainement, food and so on.

Candy.com sold for $3M. Free.com is in another league.
It would easily sell near the $5M number. It is one of the best keywords there is, and one of the best .COM possible (probably Top 10)

But candy.com has high commercial value (candy store) whereas you would need a creative way to monetize free.com in a way that would surpass ppc revenue.

Candy.com and Free.com there is no comparison.

Candy is a product yes, but not exactly something that people tend to buy or research online. If you want Candy you go to the store and buy some Candy.

If you let established domainers pick any domains they want Free.com would consistently be in the Top 10 and Candy would not.

I have no doubt this would sell around $5M, even in this economy.

Keep in mind Estibot.com is a "tool" so you can use it as a guide, but the "price" is not something to bank on. High or Low... it's still a tool.

Now I would much rather own Candy.com then Free.com .

Anybody that goes to Free.com will not even have a wallet on them. People visiting Candy.com know it costs money and they show up with cash in hand if deals are fair.

I remember a chat about the domain FreePorn.com and that it holds a Huge amount of search volume, compared to another domain that sold around the same time, but people are looking for FREE stuff and it's hard to get them to pay with that keyword.

Advertisers is likely the best way to make money due to traffic I'm sure it get's. Parking would not likely do the domain justice.

Well, when it comes to multi million dollar domains I don't think parking does any domain justice.

If someone is buying a domain for millions just to park it that seems like a bad idea to start with. With top end domains it is just a waste to have them parked IMO.

Well it looks like National A-1 Advertising bought free.com a number of years ago...it would be great if someone could manage to find out how much the sale was for, I've had no luck

It was probably a private sale, but I believe they were the second bidder in the Toys.com auction for 5.1M, so they probably paid quite a bit for it.

Here's an interesting question, I think: Would you rather have free.com or cheap.com?

Free.com by a wide margin. Free is a great word where "Cheap" can have a negative context. As in Cheap = Poor Quality.
