I let a domain of one of my clients drop and somebody picked it up. The site that is up there now is a parked site with a "this domain may be for sale" at the top. This links to http://domainsponsor.revenue.net/bidding/offer.html?a_id=27797&domainname=************ where I placed a bid.

after placing the bid I recieved an email:

Hi,

We just agreed upon a price for the domain www.*******.com for $200.00. Please send $**** via PayPal to [email protected] and we will transfer the domain into your control.

Since the domain is so new, the only way to transfer the domain is if you open a free account at www.name.com, then send us your username and we will quickly push the domain into your new account right away.

Let me know if you require a different payment option or if you require escrow services. You would pay all fees for the escrow service if you choose that option.

Regards,

Softech

I responded to ask about some details about 4 days ago and have not heard back since.

Is this a scam? How can I put money into a random paypal account?

Thanks for help (rep will be added for a good response )

Hard to check on things with ***** but I'll try...

If you submitted the bid with through that site, they should be the one emailing you. And it shouldn't be a free email, should be their company email.

It is looking like a scam, but it seems legit in some places, but doesn't in some others. Best bet would be to call the company where you placed the bid and ask for confirmation.

it seems legit, the seller just wanna escape sedo escrow fees and get the money as soon as possible.

good luck

I'd certainly be a bit leery.. might be on the up and up but sets off a few flags.

If they respond i would say that it is probally not a fake. Email the site you placed the bid in as well, to check the email address.

I just realized this post is from last year! :o

So how did it go? ;)

i got one like this from the same person.

the from email address though is different than the domain registrant email and the email of the seller on domainsponsor (through which the price negotiation was conducted).

so it smells bad. i have no trouble using escrow (and wouldn't consider going without it based on the smell test), but am guessing maybe they have some way around that?

anyone get screwed even when using escrow.com etc? could they shift domain to my account, then claim someone hacked their acct and get their registrar to give it back to them? can't shift it to another registrar for several weeks due to 60 day rule...

i asked them to update the registrant email to the one they are emailing from and they wouldn't. am thinking of making that a requirement before i initiate the escrow procedure.

thoughts? thx,
-a

kubativity i DO need your HELP ASAP !!!!

Dear kubativity, a few weeks ago, i had the same as what happened to you, but the thing is that they replied to the mail i sent them & we agreed to pay 50% now & 50% after the domain transfer..
i need your expertise to know if they was reliable & trustworthy with you or not & if it's safer to pay this 50/50 through paypal, or escrow.com is a better solution?
Thanks a lot

The point is that you don't pay for the appraisal. They also won't pay you for the full price of the domain if anyone takes the transaction
