Hi,

Is there a way to block certain website from being opened from my computer.. if some other users use the same computer, I do not want them to be able to open a certain site..how to do so?

I do not mean that the site shows warning and the users can still bypass it. I want a site to be entirely blocked..no password, nothing can grant access to it anymore on my PC>

Anyway?

Thanks,

sounds like you need a parental control software...

Porte you don't necesarily need to purchase any software. If you are using a router attached to your cable/dsl etc... it should have the ability to block specific urls or domains.

Another way if you don't have a router and you are on windows is to edit your hosts file and block the site from there. I would recommend backing up the file before doing this, you will also probably need admin rights. The Hosts file will be in different places depending on what version of windows you have.

95\98\Me c:\windows\hosts (omg if you're running these upgrade!!!)
NT\2000 c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
XP Home\XP Pro\Vista (I believe this is right for Vista) c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

You'll want to open it in a text editor for...editing. Once you locate it and open it go to the last line of text. I assume it is "127.0.0.1 localhost", you can add the new text after this. If its myspace you want to block, type in "127.0.0.1 myspace.com" after the last entry. This will only block myspace.com if typed not www.myspace.com. So you can either type in multiple entries or just put both between a comma i.e.: "127.0.0.1 myspace.com, www.myspace.com" etc... until all of the desired sites are blocked (just a note, the hosts file doesn't work with wildcard characters like *.myspace.com). Your entries would look something like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 myspace.com, www.myspace.com

This should work for you either way if you have a router or not. If you have a router do it both ways it can't hurt :).
