I got this email today from Registerfly:

David Gridley

Our records indicate you have made a deposit of [$8.99] into your RegisterFly.com account [xxxxxxxx]
bringing your account balance to [$9.01]

If you have further questions or wish to contact us please use our support center 24/7 located at https://registerfly.com/support/

I immediately checked my PayPal and online banking account and couldn't find that a deduction had been made from these accounts but when I checked my online Registerfly acct. I see a credit of $8.99 has been made via "2007-04-30 ONLINECHECK DEPOSIT 5567695" which I never authorized or made. My domains were all set to NOT auto-renew btw.

Now if Registerfly is using my acct info to automatically fund my acct via online check, it takes $25 from my bank to stop payment!

I'm going to have to call and see what I can find out but heads up everyone!

Absolutely nothing would surprise me any longer. Where are the US Marshals?

Best wishes,

The number in the email has been disconnected.. surprise!

I have to leave for work soon.. will check at my bank in the morning. I want to go down there.

I wonder how they could have done it from their end as both the cards I had online there were outdated.

Question: Where are the lawsuits? Are domainers just a bunch of pansies?

Apparently. This has been going on since early last year(2006) but somehow, someway, people still use them and register domains with them.

It boggles my mind.

I pulled my last few domains as soon as I heard of the beginning troubles months ago and called my credit card company for a new number, get out and never look back, currently using enom, godaddy, namecheap, moniker, buymyurls, itsyourdomain, fabulous and would pull out from any of these companies at the first true signs of trouble as well, better to get out ahead of time than to pray you don't lose your domains.

I checked at my bank and there's no pending transaction for Registerfly so I have no idea where the $8.99 that was deposited into my account came from, but it's there!

Might be a phishing attempt. Or their database is so messed up that it made a deposit from thin air or placed someone else's money in your account. At least, for the time being it seems harmless, but don't enter any information in case it is phishing.

Could it be a refund to your account for a failed registration attempt (even an old one) ?

RF's ineptitude may be working in your favor. Of course, it remains to be seen if you'll ever be even able to register a domain at RF anymore. I have been unable to use the funds in my account to register or renew any domains.

There is supposed to be a class action suit being headed up, i forget the link. I think generally speaking, domainers don't seem to be very action oriented when it comes to striking back at the system that has enabled them to make tons of money... Can't really blame them I guess, but I think people need to start going after ICANN and hold them responsible for their part in this whole fiasco. I guarantee they received more complaints about shady business practices from Registerfly customers in the past few years than all other registrars combined, yet they've done nothing and continue to essentially do nothing...
