Is Register.com a TM?

I thought such generic names cannot be TMed.

But according to THIS and THIS register (a generic name) is actually a TM.

Could someone enlighten me please because a friend of mine has troubles?

Well, you cannot do a full TM on a generic word..but, you can TM a specific domain and you can TM a use in a certain context. For example, Microsoft can't shut down Bob's Windows Cleaning Service, as their "Windows" TM is applied in a certain context -- same could be said for Target and many others. With regard to Register.com -- they do have a TM on the domain but I would venture to guess they certianly can't restrict all use of "register" unless the site is clearly trying to take advantage of their site name in bad faith. Many times, companies get overzelaous in claiming TM, especially with generic terms. If you could provide more details, surely we could help you out.
