Howdy!

I'm trying to think of a name from which to sell posters. SO, I'm wondering if the word "poster" absolutely needs to be in the domain name. Meaning, will I get more hits/visits if the keyword is in the doman name too?? I'm thinking yes, but I want to be certain.

Thanks!

If you are trying to make a fast site and quickly get some traffic is it a good idea to use the main keyword in the domain. Visitors will know what the site is about from the domain and it seems that Google, Yahoo as well as others also use the domain when they index sites.

Keywords in the domain do help visiors know before even visiting the site, what the site is all about, but it in no way helps in indexing unless your site is good and have links!!
imo, corect me if I am wrong

"posters" is a VERY competitive keyword as well, there are thousands out there (me included :D ) that tries to reach #1 for that one, so I don't think it will matter at all if you have the word Posters in your domain name or not...
I don't and I'm around #40 (and climbing) for "posters" now.. :)

I think it's 50% or better of the equation if you can get the keyword in somehow... it's tough with posters because so many have been taken already but look to the ccTLD's if you have to.. the ext isn't nearly as important as the keyword because you're going to develop and promote anyway.. I just got newposters_us (for reg fee) a couple days ago so they're available if you look hard enough.

If you haven't already signed up for AllPosters, check out the 3rd party script at www.c3scripts.com/allposters/. You can also try art.com and a few others tho most will tell you allposters is the best.

Not critical at all.Having a keyword doesn't necessarily mean you will get traffic.Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't.

Keyword in domain name is not required/critical if you have great PageRank, hundreds of backlinks, perfectly optimized pages, etc, etc

Top ranking in the SERP's depends on a number of factors (different for each search engine) and keyword in the domain name is only one of those factors.
But it is an important factor for Google.

A keyword rich domain name will make it easier to get a good position in the SERP's and makes it clear what your site is about.
