Is it wise to stock up any 5L pronounceable .com left?

Almost all good ones have been taken but still quite some left, do you think if it's wise to stock up and keep them for like 5 - 10 years? Are they bound to appreciate 5 - 10 years later?

Seeing the trends for 4L pronounceables, I'm quite confident that 5L ones would do but still. 5L is 26 times the number of 4L, so clearly they won't appreciate in the foreseeable future very soon.

Your say? Basically, would you register without hesitation upon the discover of an available 5L pronounceable?

There are plenty of 'pronounceable' 5L, but that are not so good. Plenty of examples on the forum
Very few are truly brandable, but usually they are already gone. Also keep in mind that brandable domains are less liquid. Basically it's okay to have a few in your portfolio but don't overdo it.

Only 10% of 5L.coms have been registered till now and I think it would be stupid to reg the rest and the kind of trend you see NOW for 4L.coms would take another 7-8years for a 5L.com or may be more .

I actually feel that there are some better 5L pronounceable names then there are 4L names. Of course 4L pronounceables are worth a pretty penny though.

I would much rather own EXARK than KOMI. EXARK cannot be misspelled, where KOMI can be spelled 5 or 6 different ways. KOMY, COMEY, KOMEY, etc etc.

Of course I would much rather have GOGO than CADDU as well.

No. Let's say you hand reg a 5L and renew it annually for the next 10 years. That's about $80, with a low probability of passive earnings (parking) during that time. You can also dig around in the aftermarket today and buy an $80 generic keyword phrase dot com earning reg fee parked. After 10 years your net cost for either name is $80, but the keyword name offers passive earnings power going forward and it actually means something to a larger audience. Good luck hand regging a meaningful 5L, but you never know. FC's example caused me to lookup eksar.com - 5 letters, pronounceable, a village in India, available to hand reg.

Thank you all for the input. I'll try to refrain myself from the temptation. Had a few good brandable 5L.com and I know more that are still available.

Last night I hand regged jefty, it's really hard to resist when I found it available and when I found out that it's a name as well, though it doesn't look pretty. A few weeks ago I hand regged vessu which seems like a brandable luxury commodity.

I know some more that are in this form, pronounceable and with consecutive letters that are easy to brand and remember. I don't know if I should reg them or not. My past failure to make a profit on names seeds serious doubts in this endeavor.

i think anyone should have some really good names under his belt just waiting for the right time, but not so much and they shouldn't be so extravagant and you should have good intuition to know when to enter the market.

I think that it is smart to invest in good 5L.coms but you gotta be picky and careful on the type that you get. As it appears that everyone has a diff view on what is pronounceable etc.

I think some of the highly pronounceable 5L.coms will eventually catch up to the 4L.com relatives.

I'd not go overboard unless you have a good plan! Still some decent names that come up occasionally.


also i think it might take a long time for this market to completely mature. I also think a lot of people will lose out and there are a lot of trash names to sort through.

Trying to find a decent domain available to register is like trying to find a virgin at the Playboy mansion.

Change your approach. Stop thinking in terms of "what can I register" and start thinking "what can I buy"? The lists of available domains have been fondled more times than Madonna and Angelina Jolie combined. Most of the gems have already been plucked long ago.

Domain values are declining, not rising. This mean that domainers holding thousands of domains are starting to let some pretty good domains drop. Let those that have come before you do the work and focus your energy on buying quality aftermarket domains.

But choose wisely as no one knows when (or if) a bottom will come.
