Is it that risky to register extensions where you don't reside?

I'm from Canada and thinking about buying .us or .asia domains.

I would provide my real address which wouldn't be alright for the registry, but I think I better provide my true address instead of lying.

- Is it that risky to register domains where you don't reside? Could there be penalties other than losing the domain?
- Anyone lost a domain that way?
- Do they do checks often?

I'm looking for info on this and will share what I'll find. I though about asking it as you might have more info on this and it might be useful to others that are thinking about doing the same.

The biggest risk of registering domains where you don't reside is not knowing the markets. Although in the case of the US, that shouldn't be a problem for you provided you comply with NEXUS registration requirements.

As a Canadian it is likely that you do not meet nexus requirements for .us (and .asia).
As Stub says make sure you understand the rules and abide by them.

Could you lose your domain ? Certainly. One famous example: http://www.dnjournal.com/archive/lowdown/2008/dailyposts/07-15-08.htm

Offtopic, but I think you are not missing out here. The two extensions you mentioned are not good investments imo.
