A rather odd ball question I know, however, would it be possible here at NP to run a never ending auction for a domain name? What do the Administrators of this forum think about this idea, or anyone else for that matter?

I'm just thinking outside the box here.

I have the domain name:

AdInfinitum.mobi - which as many of you no doubt know, means to go on forever and ever, without end.

Sooooooo, I was just kind of wondering as any eccentric British gentleman would, if it might be possible in this case to run an auction for this name as a bit of a publicity stunt.

The rules would be pretty simple.

The name itself is the commodity which would have to remain in the auction, as a condition of sale at any time, although at any point, I can assign a 'winner' of the auction at any time that I choose, which adds an element of fun and risk to the auction, as people will never know at which point I decide, that price will do for me. The winner at this point would have to honor his or her bid price. The name itself could not be developed. It would continue to attract more bids, taking the stakes ever higher. Likewise the individual who bought it off me, would too have the option at any point, of assigning to the last bidder, the domain name Ad Infinitum ...

I know this sounds as off the wall and as crazy as it gets, but would this be at all possible?

Many thanks in advance.

AdInfinitum.Mobi :)

Place your auction in the marketplace under auctions and believe me if no person bids on it the auction will bury itself forever, lol.

My best idea for you.

Now there's an idea!! :hehe:

In the throes of an email campaign, stayed up all night again, that's about another 50 companies contacted. Should here back from one or two of them. They range from media companies to real estate agents right around the world. Only one of them will be able to have the name on the .mobi extension.

In which case they would all have to accuse each other of the same, as there are loads of companies trading under the same name, covering a vast range of business sectors. One more business registering a TLD of the same name, could hardly be called cyber squatting in this case. If that were the case, this would mean that pretty much every domainer is a cyber squatter which is a preposterous proposition.

Not a bad idea!

How about putting this domain (NamePros.com) for a never ending (but serious) auction here. And if (just if) RJ ever thinks about selling this site he'd want to check that never ending auction first for latest bids.
If he decides to sell it then the new owner should keep this never ending auction for higher bids he also might consider selling the site for, and so on...
If RJ never thinks about selling NP, then the fun would still be there with the never ending auction.

Rw,

Respectfully,

I'm not seeing the value you place on the name, what am I missing?

A sense of humour perhaps.

Have you ever heard of the expression - tongue in cheek before?
