Is it possible to do this?

I am looking to have a mini site made where i can list a few misc thingies for sale. I want a great front page with exceptional graphics but the site (one or 2 pages perhaps) must have a very simple means of updating the item blurb and pics as some will change daily..i.e plants.

Now for simplicity sake, is it possible to just have a link out to a word doc where i can get in and update at will or what are your suggestions? I am on a very slow dialup at 28 kbps (rural australia) so nothing huge or complex will suit. What about wordpress...would this be more suitable and give me more options?

Wordpress is your ideal solution. There are tons of excellent templates with exceptional graphics already made, available for free. You can simply log in and add/change your content as often as you'd like.

There are two forms of wordpress. If you have your own domain and hosting account, you can download and install the software at http://wordpress.org. If you'd rather just use the hosted version, go to http://wordpress.com. They both do the same thing, but the .org site lets you install on your own domain/account.

frankly speaking you can't create anything on 28kbps if you require more enhancement to it, like a shop and a free posting board. the way to go is give it to someone who can create for you.

If you want to sell online, you'll need to have a method to make sales. Get familiar with PayPal...or spend the money on a site hosted by yahoo shopping...easiest way to go!

I agree with the others, go for WordPress! You can never go wrong with WordPress. All the plugins available for it allow you to easily add on a lot of features.

Hi. Many thanks for your comments. Looks like wordpress is the go, even though i know zero about it...so, any volunteers to develop for me? The domain name i have in mind is cozi.asia..(see ozi). I have a paypal account so paypal only would be fine. Would be a general blog with quirky news bits from here (and there are many strange things in australia) and listing our bromeliads for sale.

I feel for you. 28kbps was my connection 8 years ago. Is there no other way for you to get something faster?

Pick a not-too-complicated theme. Some themes load slower than others.
