I'm not quite sure and was verification.

Obvious meaning for it is grand theft auto, however, other sites like gta.com use it as their slogan meaning 'global technology association'

    Thanks

Devoid of context, the question is without meaning.

The word "shell" is a trademark for a large oil company.

Can you use the word "shell" in connection with the discarded exoskeletons of marine mollusks? Sure you can.

Can you use the word "shell" to sell oil? No, you can't.

Can you use "Delta" for an airline? No. A brand of faucets? No. A muddy island at the mouth of a river? Yes.

    "GTA" is:

US Reg. TM No. 0685334 for farm seeds.

US Reg. TM No. 0684504 for livestock feed.

US Reg. TM No. 2403167 for dietary supplements.

US Reg. TM No. 2793623 for travel agency services.

US Reg. TM No. 2843779 for maritime scheduling information services.

...and is likely used for various other things in various countries, including whatever country in which you might live.

Are you thinking about buying a Grand Theft Auto or "GTA" domain but do not want to get in any legal trouble? I have a ton of Grand Theft Auto domains, even a few that you'd think R* would have registered. I would see no reason why you would get in trouble for developing a fansite or having a domain for GTA or anything ;)

    Sort of

I have www.gtahelp.com but the one I was thinking of getting is a bit more generic, so just wondered.

Ah, so you're the guy that posted that over at GTA Forums ;)
You are in no way facing any legal violations with it, if Rockstar Games would have wanted it, they'd have registered it. Good luck! :)

Ye, bet I got hounded out for that ;)

I know gtahelp.com would be ok, but what if it just had 'gta' and nothing else in the title?

Take-Two Interactive has live trademarks on all these related terms. If they wanted to dispute ownership of any domain that contained GTA and used in relation to their games, they probably win. That being said, it does not appear that they are actively pursuing action against webmasters who use that term in their domains.

    1 78341882 GTA6
    2 78341879 GTA5
    3 78396077 GRAND THEFT AUTO
5 78342318 GRAND THEFT AUTO: BOGOTA
6 78342305 GRAND THEFT AUTO: SIN CITY
7 78342291 GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS
    8 78342274 GTA: BOGOTA
    9 78342261 GTA: SIN CITY
    10 78341884 GTA: SAN ANDREAS
    11 78343982 GTA: TOKYO
12 78343980 GRAND THEFT AUTO: TOKYO

I am friends with the guy that had GTASA.com (GTA San Andreas it stands for). They didn't contact him, they actually kind of liked his site (fansite-wise).

Rockstar & Take2 is one of the only bigtime guru's that has never gone after anyone for having a domain that they wanted. They're pretty nice, and to-date, I believe they haven't bugged a single soul about legally having a domain issue.

grungemusic, anyone can register for a trademark with the letters "gta", but
they have to specify what class it'll be used for or risk not getting approved.
Thus, 3 different companies can register a trademark for "gta", but for totally
different classes or fields (i.e. gta for selling furniture, gta for selling pencils,
and a gta for providing news about environment protection, though it's better
if they can add another word or so after "gta").

Although your domain name may infringe on that trademark, as long as you
can prove how you're using it is practically unrelated to that TM holder's
field of expertise, you have a strong chance of keeping it. Adding a disclaimer
that you're not related in any way to that TM holder will boost your chances
    as well.

I'm not an attorney, btw, but sharing what I've learned.

I want to make a movie called "GTA" or "GTA: The Movie" or "GTA: Los Angeles". These are all movie names that im concerned might conflict with Rockstars gaming franchise "Grand Theft Auto"... The movie will contain all original content... Will my movie title "GTA" conflict with any of Rockstars "Grand Theft Auto Series?"
