Affiliate marketing is a broad spectrum. You'd need to be more specific as to what type of affiliate marketing, it can be both.

It varies from person to person. If you treat affiliate marketing like serious business then you'll receive rewards accordingly. However if you do affiliate marketing for the sake of 'just another' source of income then you'll get nowhere. Focus is the key to success.

A lot of people make LOTS of money with affiliate marketing primarily in the long-term since its a business to them. While some people can make profits in the short-term it's harder because they don't focus on it and expect unrealistic results.
